Why We Chose Open Coworking at Maeve House

Open, thoughtfully designed coworking space at Maeve House in South Austin.

Why We Chose Open Coworking at Maeve House

When people first hear that Maeve House is an open coworking space, they sometimes pause.

No private offices.
No assigned desks.
No doors to close.

And then comes the question — sometimes out loud, sometimes quietly:
Does that really work?

The short answer is yes.
The longer answer is that it works because it was chosen intentionally.

We wanted coworking to feel human, not transactional

Traditional coworking often centers productivity above everything else. Desks are optimized. Rooms are booked. Output is measured.

But work is only one part of a person’s day — and one part of their life.

At Maeve House, we wanted to create a space where people could work without leaving their humanity at the door. Where focus and flexibility could coexist. Where presence mattered just as much as productivity.

Open coworking allows that.

Open spaces create natural rhythm

In open coworking, people move with their energy.

They choose where to sit.
They shift when they need quiet.
They step into conversation when it feels right.

There’s no pressure to stay in one place or perform a certain way. The environment adapts to the person — not the other way around.

That rhythm is calming. And it’s sustainable.

Connection grows more easily without walls

Private offices can unintentionally isolate. They close people off — even when they’re surrounded by others.

In open coworking, something subtle but powerful happens. Familiarity builds.

You start recognizing faces.
Small conversations emerge naturally.
Community forms quietly, over time.

There’s no forced networking. No introductions required. Just shared presence — which is often how the best connections begin.

We design for focus as much as connection

Open does not mean loud.
Shared does not mean distracting.

The House is designed with intention: soft furnishings, varied seating, thoughtful layout, and clear behavioral norms that respect quiet work.

People focus deeply here — and when they want connection, it’s nearby.

That balance is the point.

Open coworking supports the way adults actually work

Workdays aren’t linear. Energy rises and falls. Some tasks require solitude; others benefit from being around people.

Open coworking allows for flexibility without explanation. You don’t have to justify how you work — you just work how you need to.

That freedom is grounding. And for many, it’s a relief.

We wanted Maeve House to feel like a place you belong

At its heart, Maeve House isn’t just a place to work. It’s a place to land.

Open coworking supports that feeling. It keeps the space accessible, warm, and communal — without sacrificing comfort or focus.

It invites people to be present, to return regularly, and to build rhythm into their days.

And that’s exactly what we hoped for.
